What private investigators do
Private investigators can be hired by individuals and companies to:
- find out private information about people without their permission
- gather information about people through surveillance
- investigate missing person cases.
You need to hold a private investigator licence to do this job.
You don’t need a private investigator licence if you work for, or are a:
- legal practitioner
- accountant
- insurance business
- insurance adjustment agency
- independent investigator for the Queensland Public Service.
Domestic and family violence (DFV) laws make it a criminal offence for a licensed private investigator to knowingly participate in any form of facilitation of DFV matters.
